Stratford Police Department Website Redesign

December 22, 2015

To meet AODA standards post 2014, the Stratford Police Department approached students at the University of Waterloo's Stratford campus to come up with a website redesign.

Using a sustainable CMS (Wordpress) mixed in with custom css and javascript, we created this website for the police department.

My Role:

  • built the website from scratch
  • created custom widgets integrating with google calendar

When deciding on the platform to develop this website on I had to balance a few key factors: security, ease of use and long term reliability.

I came upon multiple platforms such as Wordpress, Wix, Weebly and Medium. I decided on Wordpress as I liked the platforms proven track-record of staying relevant and up to date, optimal security protection, its easy to use Content Management System while also balancing its ability to perform more customized tasks.

In communication with multiple project stakeholders I designed and built the webpage to be:

  • Easy to Navigate
  • AODA Compliant
  • Backwards compatible with other internal systems (crime tracking)

Along with the website, I also built a custom popout widget that would sync to a Google Calendar XML feed which the current social media officer was updating on a regular basis.
